Making the World a better place one ethical purchase at a time.
For our people and our planet, one handmade piece at a time can contribute to this mission. We use design and business as a tool to educate and employ underserved artisans in African & Asian countries by providing skills training and a market connection. Nearly all of our pieces are designed in our London office and delicately created by our artisans worldwide.
Audrey's Atlas was created with the goal of reducing poverty and encouraging self-reliance for people at the base of the pyramid, with a particular focus on women.
Audrey's Atlas encourages entrepreneurship in developing countries and creating direct access to worldwide consumer markets for these entrepreneurs. We believe that entrepreneurship and empowering artisans to use business as a force for good is the most sustainable way to reach a higher income. Our ambition is to enable these entrepreneurs to take control of their lives and to become role models for a new generation of young women and girls shaping their future.
The Artisans of Mauritius were at the root of our story. It was the first country we partnered with to create our collection of items. With our love of interiors in mind, Mauritius & its artisans helped build the dream that was Audrey's Atlas. We founded Audrey's Atlas in the belief that income in the hands of women is the best way to lift communities out of poverty. Women know what their children and their communities need and they make those investments when they have the means to do so. Audrey's Atlas gives women in remote villages of Mauritius access to the modern economy so that they can invest in their children, homes and communities as they see fit.
Some Mauritian artisans helped us to source ethical factories, others helped us to fulfil the whole process of sourcing, creating & then manufacture our products. They have also helped many young independent designers gain exposure in the western world, that wouldn't have happened otherwise. Their expertise in the textile industries have ensured we source ethical brands & materials, whilst simultaneously providing a fantastic profit margin for themselves & their colleagues.
Mark Twain once said “Mauritius was made first and then heaven, and heaven was copied after Mauritius.” This tiny tropical island that is the founder of Audrey's Atlas' father's home, is so small that sometimes it does not even appear on a world map. Nestled in the Indian Ocean, off the coast of Madagascar, Mauritius is most famous for its warm turquoise waters, sugarcane fields, beautiful beaches, tropical rain forests and the now extinct dodo. Lesser known to many is its unique blend of cultures and ethnicities which stems from its rich multicultural heritage. Today that translates into a beautiful fusion of colour, flavours, people and languages.
